meet your locals

Hi! I'm Jan, your guide to authentic Slovenia

I’m a mountain-born guide from the Julian Alps, dedicated to connecting travelers with authentic Slovenian experiences. I blend adventure, culture, and local stories to create journeys beyond the usual tourist trails.

I grew up in a small village in the Julian Alps, where the mountains shaped my early world. My path eventually carried me across the globe—from the remote trails of Asia and Africa to the iconic landscapes of Europe. Guiding started almost by chance, but quickly became my way to connect with the world and its people.

Through years of trekking and ski-touring expeditions, I’ve learned that the true magic of travel lies not only in peaks or trails but in the heartfelt connections with locals, their stories, traditions, and extraordinary generosity.

Since 2021, I’ve been guiding in Slovenia with the same mission: to introduce visitors to the people and places that truly bring this country to life. Along the way, you’ll meet incredible partners whose hospitality and expertise shape every journey.

“Jan went above and beyond — from guiding to creating unique local experiences. Truly personal, memorable, and exceptional.”

My local partners

Lucija Gartner

Shepherd & Cheesemaker

Lucija keeps the traditional high-pasture life alive in the Bohinj mountains. Every time I visit her on Planina Laz, I’m reminded how special these alpine traditions are. She’ll show you how cheese is still made the old way, and let you taste the products her family creates with incredible care.

Cheesemakers & Hosts

The Jelinčič family welcomes everyone as if they’ve known you forever. Their riverside campsite is one of my favorite places to slow down—local cheese, homemade dishes, and a setting that feels like time has stopped. They preserve traditions in a way that’s honest and heartfelt.

Javier Betanzos

Salt Artisan

Javier’s story always inspires me. Life brought him from Mexico City to the Slovenian coast, where he now preserves the centuries-old craft of sea-salt harvesting. He loves sharing how salt is made—slowly, naturally, and with deep respect for tradition. It’s a simple experience that stays with you.

Mirjam Bužanin

Wine & Gourmet

Mirjam created a small treasure in the medieval village of Vipavski Križ. Her shop and tasting room celebrate everything the valley offers—wines, oils, honey, cheeses, craft beers. She pours her passion for local traditions into every tasting and makes sure you leave with a real sense of the region.

Andrej Koruza

Heritage Host

Andrej restored an old village house and turned it into a warm, home-like retreat. Whenever we visit, he loves taking guests on relaxed walks around Hrastovlje, sharing stories about local customs, history, and the unique Istrian character. His hospitality feels genuinely personal.

Sirk Family

Winemakers

Miha and his father continue their family’s winemaking story in the rolling hills of Brda. Visiting them feels like stepping into a peaceful world shaped by vineyards, tradition, and patience. Their wines reflect who they are—warm, grounded, and deeply connected to the land.

Monika Stojc

                             Wild food expert

Monika is a book of knowledge when it comes to the “green pharmacy” growing right under our feet. With her, you’ll learn the vital skill of recognizing edible species, understanding their benefits, and how to transform them into delicious, nourishing meals. From the meadow to the plate, Monika guides you through the process of cooking your own ‘wild’ feast.

Eva Brovinsky

Movement guide

She offers a wide spectrum of embodiment practices, from the restorative touch of Thai massage and the dynamic connection of acroyoga, to yoga and professional embodiment coaching. Whether through gentle somatic sessions or outdoor movement, her goal is to help you slow down, feel more, and find a sense of ease that carries over into your everyday life.

Niki Germovšek

 Forest Adventurer

Niki offers a different, grounding way to experience the Soča Valley. He has created an archery polygon that is a highlight for any group. It’s an experience where you can hold a friendly tournament, sparking a bit of playfulness and connection.  Whether you are a total beginner or a natural marksman, Niki’s guidance makes the art of the bow feel accessible and incredibly fun.
